Several things set Reliable Fire Products pike poles apart from the other brands we have available to us.  The strength of the fiberglass handle is one of the primary features we like.  Most manufacturer's who use a hollow tube handle use the same, 1-1/4" outside diameter, fiberglass tubing that is commonly available from pultruders which has a 1/8" wall.  Reliable has chosen to use tubing that has a wall that is nearly 30% thicker than their competitors.  The result is a much stronger handle with only a negligible weight difference.  In fact, these pike poles are comparable in weight (within a couple of ounces) to the poles that are claimed to be "the lightest in the industry."

The pike heads and "D" handles are each held on with roll pins rather than epoxy so they can be repaired in the field by the end user if they do get abused (not that a fire fighter would ever do such a thing.)

The best thing about the product line is the price.  The Reliable Fire Products pike poles are a premium grade tool at an amazingly low price.  This makes their products a natural for us.

Freight Issues

Due to the length of pike poles, shipping them by UPS can cost you a bunch.  However, shipping by truck freight will cost more than the pike pole and shipping by truck will likely result in damage to your pole.  Please bear in mind the following when ordering pike poles: 

• A 6' pike pole that is properly packaged is billed by UPS as if it weighs 30 pounds.

• An 8' pike pole that is properly packaged is billed by UPS as if it weighs 70 pounds.

• A 10' pike pole cannot be shipped UPS as it exceeds their maximum 108" length limit.

• A 12' pike pole cannot be shipped UPS as it exceeds their maximum 108" length limit.
